Once, the Savannah was a heaven for cheetahs. Many of them lived here, as there weren't any humans or other carnivores and the cheetahs were at the top of the food chain. They all lived around the Lone Tree -- a tree in the middle of the savannah, and the only one for miles. It was sacred to the cheetahs, said to have been planted by the gods themselves. Many claimed it had mystical properties, such as healing. Most cheetahs believed that its blossoms would give any cheetah who ate them eternal life.
But one year, the dry season wouldn't end and a huge drought came to the lands. Without the rain, plants withered and dyed. Even the Lone Tree clearly suffered. The herbivores moved on in search of food. As for the cheetahs, it was a catastrophe. They had two choices: to wait for the rain to come, or to just leave the Savannah, even though they had to leave their precious tree behind. Many left, and the ones that loyally stayed, starved to death.
Even as the cheetahs left, they kept the old stories of the Lone Tree in their heart. Although some believed it to be merely a fable, others still knew it to be true. They had lost the way to the tree, but they looked and searched.
Meanwhile, the rains came back to the Savannah. The watering holes filled up, the vegetation became lush, and prey returned in leaps and bounds. A pair of cheetahs discovered this revitalized paradise, and settled the land. More and more cheetahs followed in their wake.
But with those cheetahs, came a clan of cheetahs called the Black Hand who had an evil plan. Although they weren’t all evil themselves, they had remembered the old stories about the Lone Tree. They wanted, for their own personal reasons, the power of immortality. Six cheetahs gathered together and schemed.
For the Lone Tree to blossom, they would need a cub marked by the gods… the Blessed Cub. They would take the cubs from each clan in the area to find the Blessed Cub and cause the Lone Tree to blossom.
The group splits into pairs, which in secret joins a clan to encourage breeding and to be able to spirit the cubs away when born…
